On the southern Pacific coast of Mexico, on the same latitude as Hawaii, insulated by the Bahia Banderas with over 100 miles of beachfront, Puerto Vallarta offers every water activity imaginable, including snorkeling, sports fishing, swimming, parasailing and jet skiing, and each of its beach communities provides a variety of places to have a casual drink or snack by the water, or just to sit and watch one of the area’s legendary sunsets. The jungle tours will show you resorts that are off the beaten path, away from the coast but not without their densely foliated private lagoons and wildlife, similar to the one depicted in John Huston’s film of Tennessee Williams’ play Night of the Iguana, which helped to put this area on the tourist map practically overnight. In town, a full range of restaurants offering every cuisine, plus museums, art galleries and shopping venues, from major chains to street vendors selling local crafts, make for an endless supply of things to do here. Other activities include hot air ballooning, mountain biking, bungee jumping, golf and tennis. The array of amusements here is endless, as is the beautiful weather in this tropical paradise.
